Ofsted Inspection October 2008
Extracts from the inspection report carried out in
October 2008
Overall effectiveness of the school:
This is a good school with some outstanding features.
Pupils' personal development and well-being are excellent, relationships
are strong and adults and children care for each other. Pastoral care is a
particular strength of the school. Pupils greatly enjoy school and have
highly positive attitudes to their learning. School involvement in the
local community is excellent.
The Headteacher sets a clear direction for improvement and the
leadership team is strong. Self-evaluation processes are good and analysis
of pupil progress is exceptionally strong. Challenging targets for school
improvement are regularly met. Governors fulfil their roles effectively,
have a good knowledge of the school's strengths and are able to explore
areas for development.

Achievement and Standards:
Teaching is predominantly good throughout the
school and pupils make good, and in some classes excellent, progress.
Pupils with learning difficulties and/or disabilities are well supported
by experienced staff and achieve well in comparison to their starting
points. The lively curriculum is well enriched by interesting additional
activities and this results in motivating pupils of all ages to work hard
and do their best. By the time pupils move on to their secondary school,
their standards of achievement are well above average.
Effectiveness of the Early Years Foundation Stage:
Good introductory processes help children settle quickly into the
Reception class. Children are well cared for and are keen to learn. They
enjoy their school experiences and behave well. Good assessment procedures
effectively identify next steps in learning and good Reception teaching
ensures children develop independence and make good progress across the
areas of learning. By the time they enter Year 1, most children achieve
above average standards.
